Away from the hard court, MPBL team owner Jeao Diaz of the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys is embracing a similar game plan that is geared towards we and not me.
That sense of togetherness was one of the reasons in making Sagittarian Agricultural Philippines, Inc. (SAPI), a corporation where he serves as president and chief executive officer, as one of the best Medium-Sized/Large Enterprise Corporations awardees in the just-concluded Landbank Gawad Tanyag Awarding Ceremony held recently at the Landbank Plaza in Malate, Manila.
SAPI was chosen as second runner-up as Gawad Kaagapay Recipeent from a list of medium-sized/large enterprise corporations.
The company, which started in corn plantation, has developed strong purchasing power for Ilagueños through a value chain from chicken broiler production, chicken hatching, hog farming, as well as production from fresh cow and carabao’s milk, kesong puti, probiotic yogurt, Panna Cotta, gelato ice cream, and Pastillas de Leche that are now well-distributed in the supermarket in different parts of Luzon.
“Nai-encourage namin ang aming mga farmers. Nagkakaroon sila ng trabaho,” said SAPI chief operating officer Julius Gamayan. “Nadi-develop ng mga Ilagueños yung strong purchasing power para mabuhay yung ibang mga negosyo. Kaya we are really dedicated to help our fellow Ilagueños.”

Mr. Diaz upholds the winning formula both in the line of business and sports by harnessing the strength of everyone.
“Katulad sa basketball, it’s all about trusting your teammates,” added Diaz. “Yan ang pinakaimportanteng sikreto namin sa SAPI, binuo namin yung team namin na very flexible. We have older members of the executive committee, but you have me which belong to the younger generation. We have a good mix and balance in our team.”
The award received from Landbank’s Gawad Tanyag is indeed a testament to the dedication they put premium on uplifting the lives of farmers and those people benefitting in the agribusiness and he believes they can only get better.
“This is a very prestigious award,” he added. “Para sa amin sa Sagittarian, it’s a testament and will serve as an inspiration for us to be better — to continue making a positive impact in the agribusiness, sa agriculture sector and of course, sa mga farmers namin.”
