Zamboanga stuns Pampanga; Caloocan, Abra prevail in MPBL

This is something we don’t see regularly as reigning two-time champion Pampanga suffered its first back-to-back losses in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League in the last three years, but on Friday, Zamboanga delivered the Giant Lanterns their second straight loss in less than two weeks.

Zamboanga took advantage of an error-prone Pampanga squad and hammered out a 76-63 triumph in a big scoring run bridging the third and fourth periods.

The Giant Lanterns committed 21 turnovers and the Universal Canning-owned squad was able to capitalize to score its fourth straight win and improve its win-loss record to 11-2.

Pampanga absorbed its third loss in 12 games.

Caloocan survived a gutsy Imus squad to win, 58-52, in the other game while Abra has an easier time disposing of Parañaque, 97-81,  with Dave Ildefonso having a field day.

The second generation cager finished with 31 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists to lead the weavers to their 11th win in 12 games.
