The NLEX Road Warriors had just posted their longest winning streak in franchise history while Japeth Aguilar had his own share of spotlight for Barangay Ginebra with his latest inclusion of big hit to seal the win for the PBA’s most popular team.
Both of them owned the night to complete the victors in the Philippine Cup Friday night at the Philsports Arena.
Count this to the growing list of big hits for Aguilar, the 38-year-old center, who plays better and better at this stage of his career.
Against the hard-fighting Blackwater Bossing, Aguilar stole the show and deprived their upset-conscious rivals of pulling off a stunner. In the end, it was the many-time national team member who ended it perfectly with a game-winning jumper with 1.7 seconds left to save the night for the Gin Kings, 101-99.
Individually, Aguilar glittered, but as a team, the Road Warriors owned the night after they outlasted the Converge FiberXers, 88-83, to secure their sixth straight win.
It was the longest winning streak in franchise history for NLEX, which now moved into a share of the lead with Magnolia Chicken at 6-1.
