Free agent Kai Sotto receives new offer from previous B. League team Yokohama

Although he has already been released by the Yokohama B-Corsairs, the team he played for just recently in the Japan B. League, 7-foot-3 Filipino center Kai Sotto may end up playing with the same team if plans push through.

Sotto’s dad, former Philippine Basketball Association player Ervin Sotto, told Pinoystep.com, that they’ve already received offer to play for the squad anew.

“B.League pa rin, Yokohama,” Sotto responded via Messenger when asked where the second generation cager is likely headed.

The elder Sotto explained that although the Gilas Pilipina stalwart has been placed on free agency, there’s already an offer on the table for Kai coming from the same team.

“Nilagay siya sa free agent para mayroon ibang teams na puwedeng kumuha pa sa kanya,” added Sotto. “Pero may offer na on the table from Yokohama.”

Ervin answered the question in the midst of speculations that his son has agreed to part ways with Yokohama.

“Hindi kasi nila alam, mga nanghuhula lang sila,” added the elder Sotto.

Earlier, a statement was released by Yokohama that Sotto was released to free agency after the player was previously loaned by the Hiroshima Dragonflies, the young player’s former team.

“We would like to inform you that the limited transfer period of Kai Sotto, who joined from Hiroshima Dragonflies with a limited time transfer, has expired,” the team said in a statement.

It was seconded by the Dragonflies, who posted a similar announcement on their website.

“The Hiroshima Dragonflies have announced that #11 Kai Sotto, who has been on loan to the Yokohama B-Corsairs, will leave the team as his contract expires on June 15, 2024,” the Dragonflies posted on their website.

The young Sotto thanked Yokohama for the opportunity and showed his appreciation on an Instagram post.

“Thank you Yokohama B-Corsairs for giving me a chance to show what I can do to this game that I love the most. Thank you for all the fans and boosters for all your love and support! Nothing but blessings and fun memories this year. TYL (Thank you, Lord),” wrote Sotto.

But Ervin is giving a glimpse on his son’s potential landing spot, although he confirmed that the immediate plan is to give Kai the much-needed rest after suffering a hyperextended knee injury that will keep him out of basketball action for a month, hence making him uncertain to join Gilas Pilipinas’ participation in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Latvia this July as well as its plans of joining the NBA training camp.
