Saints, Capital Basketball trounce rivals to make good first impression in V-Cup

Saints and Capital Basketball led from start to finish in holding off their respective rivals to enter the win column right away in the V-Cup 40-and-Above Legends Basketball tournament held recently at West Rembo Gym in Taguig.

The Capitals dumped IT Depot x Tela Athletics, 70-60, after the formerĀ  jumped the gun early, posting a 44-24 half time lead and never looked back despite getting a last-minute resistance from in the latter stretch of the match.

Leading the charge for the Capitals was Romeo Almerol, who was rock-solid on both ends of the court. He finished the game with 19 points on a steady 8-of-012 shooting from the field, while also pulling down eight boards for the Arnold Oliveros-mentored squad.

The Saints, on the other hand, survived a late scare from FMC Cura Industries before preserving a 71-66 triumph.

Ronald Hawkins scattered 16 markers as he injected energy for the Saints, who also controlled the game right from the get-go, but held steadier in outlasting the late rally put up by their rivals.
