San Juan stays perfect, rips Caloocan in MPBL

San Juan has no plans of slowing down, especially with Nueva Ecija starting to pull away from the rest of the MPBL cast.

But just like the Rice Vanguards, the Knights made sure they’ll be inĀ  the elite company of teams carrying spotless records this early part of the season as San Juan ran roughshod over Caloocan, 76-61, on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in PasigĀ  for its eighth win in as many games.

Orlan Wamar continued his brilliance on both ends of the court as he once again registered another double-double performance.

The spitfire, well-built guard came away with 12 points and 13 rebounds to keep ahold of the Knights.

But defense has been the calling card of the Knights all game long as they held the Batang Kankaloo to just 33.8% shooting from the field. The Knights’ second unit also proved to be more superior as their bench players produced 55 points, 17 more than their rivals.

Zamboanga, Sarangani pull off big victories

Zamboanga upstaged Muntinlupa, 82-75, in the battle of two playoff contenders while Sarangani kept Bulacan winless, 148-111.

Backed by SiKat and bankrolled by Universal Canning, Zamboanga came out all locked in against an equally formidable Cagers team, but with Roi Sumang stepping up to the challenge, this powerhouse team from the Mindanao region was able to put one over a team that once entered the national finals of the league’s inaugural season.

Sumang finished with 16 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals.

But it was clearer that Zamboanga also showed much depth when its second unit also outplayed the bench players of the other squad.

Zamboanga drew 43 points from its bench, 21 more than its counterpart.
