Steelworld a win away from JHBL crown, continues Cinderella Run

After overcoming a twice-to-win disadvantage in the semifinals, Steelworld continued its remarkable run in the Jersey Haven Basketball League, this time by bringing down top seed McDavid, 58-42, in Game 1 of their best-of-three championship series just recently at the 3rd Fitness Lab Gym, in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

Mark Ong, a serious contender for the Most Valuable Player award, finished with a double-double performance of 18 points and 12 boards while also completing three steals as his all-around showing proved to be infectious for Steelworld, which now has a chance of winning the crown with another victory on Monday’s Game 2.

Ong got solid support from Chester Chen and Allan Tan.

Chen contributed 12 markers to team up a 1-2 punch in offense with Ong while Tan concentrated on crashing the boards and pulled down 12 rebounds for Steelworld.

Meanwhile, Black Vape relied on Dominic Chua’s scoring splurge to beat Yobe, 102-69, and win the Battle for Third.

Chua erupted for 42 points while Rudolf Retuya had a monster game of 12 points and 21 rebounds in a dominant show by Black Vape.
