Prized recruit Greg Slaughter watched Manila up close and personal and saw his team winning in dominant fashion over Valenzuela, 90-76, on Friday night in the MPBL Sixth Season at the San Andres Gym.
Slaughter suited up and stayed on the bench while trying to absorb the Stars’ system like sponge.
But the mere presence of the seven-foot slotman on the bench proved to be infectious for the rest of the Stars as Shawn Umali and Carl Bryan Cruz provided the 1-2 punch for Manila.
Umali had a near perfect game, finishing with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field while also pulling down seven rebounds.
Cruz, on the other hand, had a double-double showing as the former Gilas cadet wound up with 15 markers on top of 10 boards.
Earlier, Slaughter told Pinoystep.com that he is still getting to know his teammates better while also working on his conditioning.
It will only be a matter of time before ‘Gregzilla’ makes his MPBL debut.
Also winning on Friday were Nueva Ecija and Sarangani.
The Rice Vanguards of Nueva Ecija toyed on the Bulacan Kuyas, 105-66, as they shot an amazing 60% clip from the field (39-of-64).
Sarangani edged Imus, 106-101.
