Rizal back on winning track; South Cotabato triumphs in MPBL

After losing back-to-back games, Rizal arrested an alarming skid and got back on the winning track on Tuesday night in the MPBL Sixth Season, this following the Golden Coolers’ 71-59 dumping of Quezon City at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The Golden Coolers banked on Alwyn Alday’s scintillating performance as the steady guard came away with a double-double performance of 17 points and 10 rebounds as Rizal picked up its fifth win in seven games.

Alday wasn’t the only one who ended up with a double-double performance as John Apacible contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Coolers, who limited Toda Aksyon to just 30% shooting from the field (19-of-62).

Kraniel Villoria fell a rebound away from his own double-double show as he wound up with 14 markers on top of nine boards.

While Rizal was able to get back on the winning track, South Cotabato also took their own path to victory, this after the Warriors clobbered Negros Muscovados, 81-74, in the other game.

Kyle Tolentino led the way for the Warriors with 23 points to go along with eight rebounds while Christian Fajarito had 16 markers and seven rebounds and John Wilson contributed 14 for South Cotabato, which improved its win-loss record to 5-3.

The loss was the fifth in eight games for the Muscovados.
