Philippine Badminton Association (PBAD) is in search for the next Filipino Olympian as it buckles down to work.
“We’re hoping to see a Filipino Olympian by 2028,” said PBAD secretary general Carla Lizardo-Sulit on Tuesday during the federation’s partnership agreement with Cignal TV.
“We have been working on a long-term plan because we want to accomplish two things: We want badminton to be one of the most popular sports in the country like how it is in Asia and elevate it to be a powerhouse on the global stage; and we have plans in store to develop our next Filipino Olympian.”
It’s a lofty goal for PBAD, one that it is kickstarting with the 2024 Philippine Badminton Open (PBO) this coming June 5 to 11.
Epok Quimpo, AVP for Sports at SMART, shared how they contributed to the advancement of badminton in the country through various development initiatives and support programs like the Philippine Badminton Open, strategic partnerships, and investment in grassroots programs.
And Cignal will be on its side in this journey, with MediaQuest and Cignal TV President & CEO Jane J. Basas signifying its commitment to chronicling this valiant mission.
“We’re very excited that we’re adding to the family a strategic partner in PBAD. We’re here to support not only the main tournaments but also the grassroots program to create greater awareness for badminton in the Philippines,” she said, promising comprehensive coverage of the badminton events through the various MediaQuest platforms, primarily on Cignal TV platforms including Free-to-Air and Pay TV, and OTT.
