Biñan encounters rough sailing, survives hard-fighting 1Munti to reach PSL semis

There’s no easy way for Biñan to reach the semifinal round and on Monday night, the top seed team experienced turbulence before recovering and coasting its way to the next round after surviving a gritty 1Munti side, 63-58, in the PSL President’s Cup at the Paco Arena.

When things were not working right offensively for them, the Tatak Gel banked on their defense to hold off 1Munti, which fought back from 15 points down and made a game out of it in the fourth period when it came within striking distance.

But the Tatak Gel turned on their defensive switch when needed the most.

Protecting a shaky 57-55 lead with still 7:25 left, Biñan held 1Munti without a field goal since then to preserve the victory.

“We have to deal with the physicality,” said Biñan coach Boyet Fernandez. “The players were caught by surprise because of what 1Munti did to us. Also, we have to do a better job executing our offense. We were stagnant, no rotation and no picks that we executed.”

Biñan will be facing the winner of the Caloocan-Quezon encounter in a best-of-three series.
