Nueva Ecija unloaded 66 first-half points and set the tone for an early rout to hammer out a convincing 127-86 victory over San Pedro in the PSL President’s Cup at the Filoil-EcoOil Centre in San Juan just recently.
The Capitals ran roughshod against Pablo Escobets right from the get-go, posting leads by as high as 44 points.
Their fluid offensive game was sparked by their prolific 61% shooting from the field (54-of-88) anchored on their solid transition game where they scored 38 points on fast breaks compared to only 16 for the Pablo Escobets.
Leading the Capitals’ assault were the six players who ended up in double figures led by Michael Juico.
A former player from the Philippine Basketball Association, Juico produced 19 markers on a steady 9-of-11 shooting from the field.
Michael Mabulac imposed his will and wound up with 16 points and seven rebounds while Billy Robles contributed 15 points, making all but one of his eight attempts from the field.
Byron Villarias hit four three-point shots on his way to finishing with 14 markers while Rob Celiz and Ralph Robin had 13 and 11 points, respectively for the Capitals, who scored 78 points inside the shaded lane, 40 more than their rivals.
The Capitals, who also produced 42 assists compared to 19 by Pablo Escobets, improved their win-loss record to 14-1, just half a game behind solo leader and still undefeated Biñan, which carries a 13-0 card.
