MPBL: Quezon remains spotless as QC, Mindoro win

Gab Banal and LJ Gonzales played consistent all game long, but Xyrus Torres stepped up when needed the most and delivered key baskets in overtime as they kept Quezon spotless in the MPBL Sixth Season at the Quezon Convention Center Saturday.

Banal finished with 20 points while Gonzales contributed 19 markers but it was the two triples Torres unloaded in the extra period which provided the much-needed lift in hacking out a tense 91-89 triumph over a game Batangas City team.

The latest win kept the Huskers’ perfect record while extending the team’s eight straight victory in as many games to keep a hold of the solo lead.

Quezon City outlasted Iloilo in a similar tight encounter, 74-71, as Rafael Are’s two free throws and missed shots from CJ Cansino and Mark Nonoy sealed the win for TODA Aksyon.

Mindoro, on the other hand, relied on its power trio in  beating Pasay, 96-88.

Ken Bono, Paul Desiderio and Jhon Caspe scored 20 points or more for the Tamaraws, who shot 51% from the field (35-of-68).

Bono led the way with 25 points on 10-of17 shooting from the field.

Desiderio and Caspe tallied 21 markers apiece for the Tamaraws, who improved their win-loss record to 4-6.
