Coach Gary Van Sickle admitted their early inconsistencies nearly doomed them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah, like some of the players said, we were still feeling it out\u2026 it was us killing ourselves,\u201d he said, pointing to miscues that stalled their campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But once the errors were addressed, everything shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs soon as we cleaned it up, we started rolling,\u201d added Van Sickle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And roll they did \u2013 whirling, surging, then roaring through the most treacherous path of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a costly loss to Farm Fresh pushed them to the brink, Petro Gazz fought back, defeating Capital1 and PLDT to secure the fifth seed entering the knockout phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From there, the Angels played their fiercest volleyball. Even with Lindsey Vander Weide sidelined by injury, they dethroned the Creamline Cool Smashers in the quarterfinals and outlasted the Akari Chargers in a tense semifinal thriller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their four-set triumph over the over-achieving ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in the finals sealed not just a championship, but a testament to their never-say-die identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Against the Anna DeBeer-led Thunderbelles, however, the Angels initially appeared rattled. And Van Sickle knew they needed a reset \u2013 and fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe started off a little slow\u2026 but the girls kept focused, stayed together,\u201d he said. \u201cOnce we got the lead, I think they started feeling the pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those early-season struggles, he emphasized, prepared them for moments like this. \u201cEarlier in the year, we were 3-3. Those battles helped us fight for this one,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Van Sickle family, the victory carried even deeper meaning. Gary, wife Lisa, and daughter Brooke had all journeyed together \u2013 the first full-family staff to win a PVL championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe always watched Petro Gazz from afar,\u201d Gary said. \u201cWhen the opportunity came, we didn\u2019t hesitate. It worked out well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brooke, who earned Conference MVP honors, called it the ride of a lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter how you start, it matters how you finish,\u201d she said. \u201cThis team had grit. We locked in when it mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also praised Finals MVP MJ Phillips, who had been both anchor and emotional support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMJ\u2019s my bestie\u2026 She uplifts me no matter what. In crunch time, it\u2019s reassuring to look at her and know she\u2019s locked in,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vander Weide, hero of the 2022 title run, savored a full-circle moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had such a weird start and middle, but pulling this off shows our grit. We knew we had it all along,\u201d said Vander Weide, who brushed off their rocky first set in the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was just us cleaning it up. Volleyball is a game of errors \u2013 who makes less, who scores more. We put pressure on them and turned it around,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Angels also maintained their uncanny Reinforced Conference rhythm \u2013 2019, 2022, and now 2025 \u2013 three titles, each three years apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But this time, they reject the idea of waiting until 2028 for another. With their core intact and culture strengthened, they believe this is the beginning of another ascent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTwice is nicer,\u201d said Vander Weide with a grin. \u201cThis team has grit \u2013 it shows itself as the best.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for a third return?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
