The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) held its National Convention at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall in Pasig City. The event was graced by the top decision-makers of the organization led by SBP Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan, Chairman Robbie Puno, and President Al Panlilio.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThe National Congress is a chance to celebrate our progress, honor those who have helped us get here, and recommit ourselves to the hard work ahead,\u201d said SBP Chairman Puno.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cBecause the SBP is more than an organization\u2014it is a community. And it will take all of us, working together, to build a future for Philippine basketball that is not only proud of the past\u2014but prepared for what\u2019s next. More than just continuity, we live by our commitment and our love for this sport.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The event saw former SBP Chairman Sonny Angara and former Executive Director Sonny Barrios receive the prestigious Manuel V. Pangilinan Award.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
A special commendation was also given to current Gilas Pilipinas players who saw action in different leagues all over the world in 2024. Jack Danielle Animam, AJ Edu, Justin Brownlee, Kevin Quiambao, Dwight Ramos, Kai Sotto, Carl Tamayo, Ange Kouame, and Jhazmin Joson were given their due recognition for representing the national teams and the entire country in their home leagues.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Region 6 received an award as the Top Performing Region in the SBP\u2019s Grassroots program while the NCAA was given feted in celebration of its 100th year.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Filanthropic Sports Federation, Inc. was also honored as a funding recipient of FIBA\u2019s Basketball for Good program.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
SBP Executive Director Erika Dy bared the SBP\u2019s multi-pronged attack to deliver the dream for everyone involved in the sport of basketball in the country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Norman Black, Jong Uichico, Andrew Teh, and Ryan Gregorio all made their presentations about the Grassroots, Coaches Commission, Technical Officials, and Integrity, respectively.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
An important part of the National Congress was to set the future of the organization and vote on the amendment of some of its bylaws.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This includes the addition of 3×3 and eFIBA as part of the SBP’s mandate, as well as adding a Player<\/div>\n
Representative to its Board of Trustees. Elections for the next Board and its officers is scheduled this coming October.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cBasketball must be inclusive. It must invite. It must make room. It must be open,\u201d said Chairman Emeritus Pangilinan. \u201cThis game grows not when we guard the gates but when we open our doors; when women, youth, 3×3 players, professionals, and grassroots all feel that this game is theirs to shape, and to share.\u201d<\/div>\n

Before the end of the event, the partnership between adidas Philippines and the SBP was announced.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

We believe in the power of sport to change lives, and we are committed to providing the best possible gear and support to our national team. Together, we will work towards achieving new heights and inspiring the next generation of Filipino<\/div>\n
basketball players,\u201d said adidas Philippines Country Manager Dave Sexton.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe look forward to a successful partnership with SBP and to seeing Gilas Pilipinas shine on the international stage, with the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup.\u201d<\/div>\n

SBP President Panlilio, serving his second term in his capacity, shared his dream for the organization.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cMy dream is for us to build our own Home of Basketball – a lasting legacy where every child, every fan, and every aspiring athlete can find their place and pursue their dreams,\u201d Panlilio said.<\/div>\n
