Alpha Vape squandered a 15-point lead, but recovered in time to survive a hard-fighting Solar Grid in overtime, 68-65, and capture the Mabuhay Basketball League Season 12 championship just recently at the Philippine Cultural College in Quezon City.
Miguel Dy stepped up when needed the most as he finished with 13 points, including crucial baskets down the stretch that allowed Alpha Vape to gain its second wind and averted a near endgame collapse.
His baskets proved to be the deciding factor in outlasting Solar Grid while cementing his claim as the Finals’ Most Valuable Player.
“Team effort talaga ang nangyari dito. Nawala yung dalawang big men namin kaya kailangan may mag-step up sa amin,” said Dy. “Breaks of the game, sinuwerte, nakaka-shoot (sa bandang huli).”
Dy stepped up big and had to fill in those huge holes created by the departure of Dr. Edwin Yap and Philbert Yiu.
Mac Dy led the way with 15 points for Alpha Vape while Yap completed a double-double game of 10 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.
Yiu contributed nine markers to go along with 10 boards for Alpha Vape, whose bench players outscored their counterparts, 31-21.
