PBA veteran forward Sean Anthony is ready to move on life after basketball and embark on a new career journey.
The 6-foot-4 Fil-Canadian is set to announce his retirement anytime soon, but shared his plans to Pinoystep.com about a career shift he’s about to embark into when his family settles in Vancouver, Canada.
“I’ll be starting a job as a senior management consultant (in Vancouver) and it’s a great opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” said Anthony in an exclusive interview during a get-together dinner with the former members of the Coca-Cola/Powerade Tigers arranged by their long-time team manager and representative to the PBA board JB Baylon.
Also attending the get together were Gary David, the team’s premier gunner that saw the Tigers nearly completing a Cinderella Finish in the 2011-2012 Philippine Cup. Powerade was then an eighth-seeded squad, beat top seed B-Meg twice in the quarterfinal round then upstaged Rain or Shine in the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Talk N’ Text.
Other players who also saw action in the franchise were there like Jovy Sese, a member of the original Coca-Cola Tigers team of 2002 which won the All-Filipino crown, Francis Allera and James Martinez, who played in the Powerade squad before the team was acquired by GlobalPort.
One of the most hardworking journeymen ever to play in the PBA, Anthony played for 10 PBA teams, including his last squad — the NLEX Road Warriors, who offered him a contract extension.
“I have an extension offer with NLEX, but I have to take care of my son who was in Singapore for the last six months. Then came an opportunity of working in Vancouver, which will bring me close to home. So I’m pretty excited to start in my new career. I’d like to show to my fellow players that you can study and work and there’s life after basketball.”
As a senior management consultant, Anthony said he’ll be helping different firms.
“Basically it’s all about helping corporations, advising them on developing high performance corporate cultures,” added Anthony.
Anthony is set to move with his family next week, just in time for his kids’ school season on September 1.
A former Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the league’s Mythical First Team in 2019, Anthony will be reconnected with his family in Vancouver.
Anthony is expected to announce his retirement any moment from now after playing in the league for nearly 16 seasons.
