In case you’re wondering why Fil-American veteran guard Jason Brickman hasn’t seen action for the Abra Weavers the past few games, he had to return to the United States to attend to some personal matters.
But he stays committed with the Weavers, whom he wants to help out ahead of their playoffs campaign in the ongoing MPBL 2025 Season as the team is poised to make a deep run to the and vie for a potential title shot.
Speaking to Pinoystep.com in the latest episode of Sports-On-The-Go, a sponsored segment of KING.PH, Brickman clarified that he is still under contract with Abra this season and he intends to resume playing as soon as Strong Group Athletics wraps up its campaign in the annual William Jones Cup.
Brickman and fellow Abra stalwarts, Dave Ildefonso and Geo Chiu, will bolster the defending champions when they launch their title defense beginning Sunday.
“I have some personal stuff that I needed to attend to back home, but I’m here now,” said Brickman. “Yes, I will play for Abra because I’m still under contract.”
But whatever is going to happen to the Weavers’ journey in the MPBL this season, there’s no stopping Brickman from joining the PBA Rookie Draft as he is expected to pick high in the first round.
Brickman’s name cropped up as a potential top overall pick even during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, but back then, the PBA has strict policies regarding Fil-foreign players joining the Draft until the player found an opportunity playing overseas in Taiwan where he spent the past four years of his career playing there.
This season, Brickman is decided to enter the Rookie Draft as the PBA has more lenient rules now when it comes to Fil-foreign players looking to join Asia’s pioneering professional league.
“It’s very likely that I will join in the (PBA) Draft. I’m still open to other opportunities playing overseas, but it’s getting closer forĀ me to come and play in the Philippines. I’m very excited for that opportunity,” he added.
Perhaps a great run in the MPBL while playing for Abra might be a fitting send off for Brickman as he prepares to become one of the PBA aspirants.
