UAAP accepts resignation of league commissioner Nunag

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines announces that it has accepted the resignation of Xavier “Xavy” Nunag as Basketball Commissioner.

Commissioner Nunag tendered his resignation, which will be effective April 18, 2025, to focus on his other business pursuits.

Commissioner Nunag served as UAAP Basketball Commissioner beginning Season 86 up to the ongoing Season 87, overseeing all the divisions of the league’s basketball tournaments.

Before being elevated to commissioner in Season 86, Nunag first served as the acting commissioner for the UAAP Season 85 High School Boys’ Basketball Tournaments.

“On behalf of the UAAP, we extend our deepest gratitude to Commissioner Xavy Nunag for his service to the league,” said UAAP Season 87 Treasurer Dolreich “Bo” Perasol of host school University of the Philippines. “His leadership introduced meaningful innovations in our basketball officiating and tournament management, and we are truly thankful for the dedication and professionalism he brought to the role.”

During his tenure, the Basketball Commissioner’s Office was also strengthened by his two deputies: Marvin Bienvenida for the high school boys and junior high school boys divisions, and Atty. Mariana Lopa for the collegiate women’s and high school girls’ divisions.

Atty. Lopa stepped down earlier this year to pursue another direction in her career in sports.

Mr. Bienvenida, who continues to serve the league, has been designated as the acting basketball commissioner for the upcoming 3×3 basketball tournaments in May.

“It has been a pleasure working with Commissioners Xavy and Atty. Mariana. Their contributions have greatly elevated the standard of our basketball tournaments,” said UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene Andrei “Rebo” Saguisag Jr. “We are confident that Commissioner Marvin will continue the fine work they have started as we get ready for the 3×3 season. Maraming salamat.”
