TAT Leg 2: Wong’s triple-double show propels Aces to victory over Titans

Denzel Wong played probably the best game of his basketball career, as he came away with a triple-double performance in  the Aces’ 130-128 triumph over Titans Pilipinas in The Asian Tournament Leg 2 at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna Saturday.

Wong knocked in 25 points, but completed his brilliant, all-around performance by dishing out 15 assists and collaring 14 rebounds, allowing the Aces to secure a top two berth in Group A.

But Wong’s masterful game was also complemented by his solid supporting crew as six finished also wound up in double figures in this high-scoring affair.

Macky Acosta and Alfren Gayosa each tallied 20 points apiece, Alex Kolchenko flirted with a triple-double performance and ended up with 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists while Marcus Elliot added 12. Due Lacastesantos and Ricky Bryce each had 10 markers in a display of balance firepower by the Aces, who scored 80 points inside the shaded lane, but needed to survive a fantastic shooting day from Titans Pilipinas, which hit a total of 17 three-point shots.

Like the Aces, Titans Pilipinas also had seven players finishing in double figures led by the double-double games of Ken Bono and Henry Iloka.

A former UAAP MVP who also played several years in the PBA, Bono came away with 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds while Iloka pumped in 18 points and 16 rebounds.

John Caspe added 16, Tosh Sesay contributed 15, Ed Doroteo also had his share of a double-double showing with 12 points and 10 boards and Brylle Meca and Jayvee dela  Cruz had 11 and 10, respectively for Titans Pilipinas.
