Guzman sparks Guangzhou’s first TAT Leg 2 win with double-double game

Guangzhou Loong Lions asserted their might over Nikkelham Lions, 91-44, to close out their elimination round campaign on a positive note in Leg 2 of the Asian Tournament at the Alonte Sports Complex in Biñan, Laguna on Friday.

Jonathan Guzman finished with a double-double showing for the Loong Lions with 13 points and 10 boards as Guangzhou served notice of its title aspirations in Leg 2 of this Winter Tournament.

It was the first win in four starts for the Loong Lions, who lost their first three games, including a sound 112-95 loss at the hands of the Aces on Thursday.

“We’ve shown improvement in terms of trusting each other,” said Guzman, a Fil-American player, who added seven assists as he helped his team in arresting a three-game skid. “This is our second time playing together. In the first leg, we barely new each other, but now, we’re coming together and understanding each other we’re they’re on the floor.”

Team captain Zijie Yang led the way for the Loong Lions with 15 points, the same output produced by Jian Haoli.

For the Lions, it was their fifth setback in as many games.
