The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League is set to crack the whip and impose a hefty sanction on Germy Mahinay of Negros Muscovados, who dangerously tackled Rey Joey Barcuma of Zamboanga Master Sardines.
“We’re set to impose an indefinite ban on Mahinay,” MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes told Pinoystep.com.
Barcuma lost his balance as he was airborne when he received that strong tackle from the bigger, highly-physical Mahinay
The former Perpetual Help player flipped in mid-air, his face hitting the canvass while going down.
Surprisingly, the 6-foot-5 Mahinay appeared to show no remorse right after the incident.
Mahinay’s indefinite ban could jeopardize his professional basketball career as he also needs to get clearance from the Games and Amusement Board before he could return to play.
PBA star Calvin Abueva was given an indefinite suspension during the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup for hitting TNT import Terrence Jones.
He was unable to play for 16 months and returned only during the height of the pandemic, but he had to undergo GAB seminar before his license was reinstated.
