Unlike his great team in the past, Alaska, which went on a rebuilding phase a few years after winning a grand slam, Tim Cone is not keen on making significant changes on Barangay Ginebra roster.
“We’re not looking to rebuild. We just need to be patient and get healthy, but we may need some short-term help in the meantime,” wrote Cone in a Viber message to Pinoystep.com.
Ginebra has been plagued with injuries with Jamie Malonzo being added to the list of the Gin Kings casualties.
Malonzo will be out for eight weeks after incurring a calf injury, joining the other hurting players on the sidelines like Jeremiah Gray.
The Gin Kings also lost players like Aljon Mariano and Jared Dillinger to injuries while former Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson just returned after missing the Gin Kings’ first few games in the tournament due to back problems.
Cone admitted that they’re looking for players to fill in the void left by Malonzo and likely to bring in athletic forward David Murrell, who was released recently by Magnolia.
The two-time grand slam coach are looking for more options to shore up his banged up roster.
“We’re just looking to balance our line up with our missing players,” added Cone.
