Local folks from Bacolod waiting to see Scottie Thompson in full flight will have to be contented seeing the former Most Valuable Player on the sidelines.
Thomspon’s long-time Barangay Ginebra coach, Tim Cone, who will be handling Team Japeth, confirmed to PinoyStep.com that the do-it-all player is expected to miss a few more games, including the All-Star Weekend that will be held in Bacolod from March 22 to 24.
“We haven’t felt the void of Scottie so far, but that will come,” said Cone in an exclusive interview moments after leading the Gin Kings to their second straight win on Sunday night following his team’s 102-92 triumph over the Tyler Tio-less Phoenix Super LPG at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Hopefully, we’ll get him back. I don’t think he’ll be playing in the All-Star Game. I think he’ll have to be out.”
A back injury had sidelined Thompson in the first two games, but his absence was hardly felt as the Gin Kings were getting huge contributions from Jamie Malonzo, Mav Ahanmisi and the latest one, Louis Raphael Cu, a rookie selected in the second round by the Gin Kings this season.
“His back is still bothering him, so we’re hoping sometime after the All-Star Game, he might be available for us, but we’re seeing two or three weeks at least,” added Cone.
