PSL: Young Blazers outlast veteran-laden Mustangs

In the end, the young legs of Strong Group Athletics-St. Benilde prevailed over the veteran-laden MisOr.

Dragged in an overtime match by the gritty Mustangs, the Blazers summoned their youthful energy when needed the most in the extra period to survive their rivals, 68-62, in the PSL President’s Cup at the Paco Arena.

Allen Liwag was an unstoppable force on both ends of the floor as he came away with monster numbers of 17 points and 22 rebounds as he simply lorded it over against the more experienced frontliners of MIsOr headed by former Philippine Basketball Association star Reynel Hugnatan and Edcel Mag-Isa.

But Liwag also got plenty of help from the energetic Blazers side, which also got a solid game from Gab Cometa.

Cometa contributed 10 markers as the Blazers picked up their second straight win and improved their win-loss record to 4-2.

MisOr absorbed its fifth loss in 11 games and saw its five-game winning steak snapped.

Earlier, Paul Desiderio hit a game-tying triple from the left wing to send the game to overtime, but the young Blazers refused to fold up and came out ready in the extra period.
