PSL: San Juan shackles 1Munti

San Juan turned its defensive switch in the third period to shackle 1Munti and book a 71-59 win in the PSL President’s Cup at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna late Thursday night.

The Kings of San Juan held their rivals to only six points in the third period to turn a close game into a rout, allowing the team coached by Senator Jinggoy Estrada to pick up its eighth win in nine games.

1Munti absorbed its fourth loss in 10 games.

Marwin Taywan came off the bench and produced 14 markers to lead the way for the Kings, who shot a steady 50% from the field (26-of-52).

With Taywan more active on the offensive end, San Juan’s bench production improved immensely as the reserves came up with 49 points, 20 more than its counterpart.

AC Soberano, the team captain of the squad, who previously played for NLEX in the Philippine Basketball Association, added 13 points, while gem Miranda contributed 10 for the Kings, who also had 14 second chance points compared to only three for 1Munti.
