Fortune Gas stepped onto the pedal with more efficiency and breezed past Smart Mat, 99-70, while Cloud walked the tightrope before outlasting Trigem, 86-82, in overtime on opening night in the Chinoy Liga Draft League event at the Winterpine Covered Court.
With three players ending up with double-double performances, Fortune Gas was absolutely too much for Smart Mat to handle.
Fortune Gas relied on Charles Go, Law Lee and John Acosta in bringing down Smart Mat.
Go finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Lee submitted 19 points and 15 boards. Acosta poure din 12 points to go along with 16 caroms as Fortune Gas imposed their will inside the paint, scoring 42, which were 14 points more than their rivals.
Fortune Gas also dominated the battle of the boards, pulling down 62 compared to Smart Mat’s 44.
When it comes to producing points, Henry Dy was definitely the star of the show as he pumped in 32 points, including eight three-point shots.
Cl;oud repulsed Trigem with Robert Martin and Nad Tipo ended up with double-double games.
Martin finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Tipo contributed 14 points and 16 boards. Also winding up in double figures were Lloyd Tee and Angelos Reyes, who had 17 and 12 points, respectively.
