Old rivalries spice up new PBA season as RHJ set to return Monday

Old rivalries will be rekindled when the Philippine Basketball Association opens shop on August 18.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who led TNT to a title drive two seasons ago, will be back for another tour of duty with the Tropang Giga.

Team manager Jojo Lastimosa confirmed to Pinoystep.com that the former NBA star is set to return on Monday.

“He’s arriving Monday. He became available when his team in Puerto Rico lost in the quarterfinals late July, so he became available,” added Lastimosa, who coached Hollis-Jefferson when the Tropang Giga won the championship of the Governors’ Cup two seasons ago.

With Hollis-Jefferson coming back, he’ll have an opportunity to renew his rivalry with Justin Brownlee of Barangay Ginebra.

That rivalry started two years ago when Hollis-Jefferson dealt Brownlee his first finals loss in the PBA, but the rivalry spilled over when the beloved Gin Kings import reinforced Gilas Pilipinas in the Asian Games as the Philippines defeated the RHJ-led Jordan national team in the finals.

Another old nemesis had earlier became available to return and reinforce Meralco – Allen Durham, who lost in all three finals battles with Brownlee.

This will definitely make the season-opening Governors’ Cup a lot more interesting.
