Reyes, Chua make splash in ROTC Luzon Games

TAGAYTAY City– Kirk Dominique Reyes and Janelle Kyla Chua of De La Salle University- Manila bagged five gold medals each in the swimming competition in the Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games Luzon NCR leg at the De La Salle University – Dasmariñas pool here.

The 19-year-old Reyes added two more medals to his collection after dominating the boys’ 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter butterfly events.

Reyes submitted a time of 32.14 seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke, beating Will Andre Tolentino and Meynard Bautista, who took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Reyes was just as impressive in the 100-meter butterfly as he earned his fifth medal by finishing in 1:02.65, ahead of Richardson Navo, who claimed the silver with a time of 1:14.35.

“Pwede na pero kaya pa lakasan para sa susunod na nationals kaya ko pang bilisan,” said Reyes, who duplicated his three gold medals in 200m Individual Medley, 200m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly on opening day

Chua made her presence felt by winning five medals in the girls’ 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 100m butterfly events.

Chua registered a time of 41.70 seconds in the 50m breaststroke, defeating Hanako Joyce Casinas (1:09.58) and Lorena Kim Batara (1:18.52), who settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In the 100m butterfly, Chua earned her fifth medal by clocking 1:11.19, well ahead of Shayne Francine Lugay (1:12.64) and Jasmine Del Moro (1:30.37).

“Ok naman yun swim ko lately kasi given na wala masyado training last week dahil malakas nga yung ulan, pero ok naman,” Chua told sportswriters.

“Medyo kasi based naman sa mid program na nakita ko halos wala masyado yun mga competitive swimmers).” added Chua

Over at the Cavite State University (CvSU) track oval, Zoren Lepalam of Rizal Technological University-Boni Campus topped the men’s Army long Jump by leaping 6.24-meter to capture the gold medal.

Lepalam bested his teammate Earl Constantino (6.23) and Allan Heliran of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture- Pili Campus (5.80), who settled for silver and bronze medal, respectively.

Audrey Abigail Latag of Philippine State College of Aeronautics-FAB Campus shot her way to the gold medal by clocking 34.1 seconds against Clarise Jade Ronda Buyayo of Fullbright College and Jovelyn San Ramon of Saint Jude College Manila in the Air Force – Women 200-meter.

Other winners in athletics include Geremae Domalanta of Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation. Inc. in 200-meter Navy women and Janice Patdu of Don Honorio Ventura State University in 200-meter Army women.

Men’s 200-meter winners are, Guhan D.L. Garcia of Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation Inc (Navy), Meynard Guillermo of University of Baguio (Army), Rommel Gonzales of Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa (Air Force).

In volleyball, MWU swept BSU, 3-0, MSEUF blanked DLSU, 3-0, and TI beat PHILSCA-2, 3-0.

At the Tolentino Sports Complex and Activity Center, competition in taekwondo continues, along with basketball, sepak takraw, chess, boxing, kickboxing, and target shooting.
