Parañaque continued to sizzle while Valenzuela and Bulacan carved out similar hard-earned victories in the MPBL’s Sixth Season late Wednesday night.
For the fourth straight game, the Patriots of Parañaque continued to find the resolve to win with no less than ex-PBA player Mark Yee setting the standard.
A former Most Valuable Player of the MPBL, Yee posted a double-double performance of 10 points and 13 boards even as Philip Manalang took care of business on offense while keeping a hold of his team with his efficient playmaking.
Manalang led the way with 12 points to go along with four assists while homegrown and former MPBL All-Star Paolo Castro contributed 10 and his backcourt partner John Ray Villanueva added eight for the Patriots of coach Myke Saguiguit.
Like Yee, Dennis Santos also had his own double-double show, posting numbers of 19 points and 11 boards in leading the Classic of Valenzuela to a 91-87 squeaker of Bataan.
Both the Classic and the Risers now have identical 2-2 slates.
Bulacan went through a wringer before escaping Sarangani, 92-88 as Nino Ibanez and Kristan Hernandez came up with game-changing plays to allow the Kuyas in cracking the win column.
Ibanez let loose a triple with still 17 seconds left in the game to put the Kuyas on the driver’s seat.
A big stop at the other end by the Kuyas forced Ryan Sual to miss on his floater and Hernandez, who picked up a rebound and got fouled in the process, sealed the victory by sinking both his charities.
